Summer Concert Season Finishes at Lakefront Park in Hudson, WI
AN EASY SUMMER DAY, comfortable weather, and a concert at a quintessential venue closed out TCTE's summer activities at the Hudson Lakefront Park Bandshell in Hudson, WI last Tuesday. Enthusiastically received by an audience of about 150, the excellent 65-minute performance featured works ranging from marches, Disney tunes, to TV themes and patriotic music. This was the second appearance of TCTE at Hudson's bandshell, 2022 and 2024.

Rain Dampens the Printed Music but not the Spirit
On-and-off dribbles and one legitimate drench met the TCTE at Woodbury's outdoor Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 27. Luckily, the drench occurred at a time in the service that did not include the TCTE. But the 30-minute prelude and the in-service and post-service performances were played during dribbles, which, of course, watered the printed music on the stands.
But that didn't stop the TCTE, which played excellently through the entire event, including a beautiful version of Echo Taps, performed by Gene Poole and Chris Tank.
After the prelude of patriotic music, within in the service the ensemble played a medley of armed forces anthems and closed the event with God Bless America. The hour-long ceremony was attended by an estimated 200 people who witnessed speeches and military remembrance traditions, all carried off with impressive professionalism -- as was the work done by the Twin Cities Trumpet Ensemble. Even in the rain.

Guest Artist with Kenwood Symphony Orchestra
August 9, 2023 Maple Grove Town Green Park
August 14, 2023 - Como Lakeside Pavilion
The first of three planned concerts in collaboration with the Kenwood Symphony Orchestra was in Maple Grove and a marvelous success. The orchestra and the trumpet ensemble performances were met with enthusiastic applause by the near capacity crowd. The second concert at the Lake Harriet Bandshell was, unfortunately, cancelled due to weather. The third concert at the Como Lakeside Pavilion was greeted with standing ovations and a delighted audience. Thank you to the Kenwood Symphony Orchestra for the invitation to join them, and to our audience for such a warm welcome.

TCTE - Central Park Rosemount, MN July 13
It was a perfect summer evening for a concert and Central Park in Rosemount was a perfect venue. It was the premiere of TCTE's newly acquired herald trumpets! They were featured in one of our pieces, "On the Map", composed by Joshua Hobbs and adapted by James Olcott. A herald trumpet is a fanfare trumpet and has the same range as a standard Bb trumpet, but with a long bell that can accommodate a ceremonial banner.

Hello Austin, MN - TCTE Concert June 28
The Twin Cities Trumpet Ensemble performed in Austin, MN at a joint concert with the Austin Community Band. The concert was very well attended and the audience enjoyed an excellent performance by the Austin Community Band, who concluded their part with TCTE playing Bugler's Holiday with the band. The second half of the concert was all TCTE and included premier performances of Scottish Images and If Thou Be Near, a wonderful jazz solo in the Odd Couple, and concluding with the Stars and Stripes Forever.

TCTE Music Director James Olcott lead the ensemble and guest artists Ronald and Aaron Romm, in what can only be called an absolutely outstanding performance. In a room with surprisingly good acoustics for brass, and a very discriminating audience (trumpets players from across the globe) the ensemble was met with a standing ovation at the end of the concert.
From the opening number, Signature Fanfare, which solicited verbal ooh's and ah's from the audience, color, control, style, ensemble cohesiveness, and musical understanding were clearly exhibited and warmly appreciated by the listeners.
One of the many highlights of the presentation was the performance of Clarion Calls for Two Trumpets and Trumpet Choir, written by Eric Ewazen for the TCTE in 2022. Featured soloists Ronald Romm and his son Aaron were brilliant in their execution of a very exciting work with a great deal of interplay between the the soloists and ths six-part ensemble, which was also brilliant in the piece's execution.

"A Procession of Trumpets"
November 13, 2022 concert a brilliant success.
The Procession of Trumpets concert at the Ives Auditorium, Masonic Heritage Center, with Master of Ceremonies Tim Blotz, was a high success. An audience of over 250 seemed mesmerized with every tune that the ensemble played. From the opening fanfare to the premier of Eric Ewazen's Clarion Calls performed by guest soloists Ronald Romm and Charles Lazarus to the final piece, The Stars and Stripes Forever.
Congratulatory notes included "clean", "terrifically exciting", "stylistically nails-on", and 'fantastic variety"; "The group understood the music and played with phrase, dynamics, and style." Perhaps the most meaningful compliment came from composer Eric Ewazen: "My heartiest congratulations and thanks to each and every one of you for your truly exciting and brilliant concert this past Sunday, and your beautiful and riveting premiere performance of Clarion Calls. Each piece was so distinctive and so beautifully performed, highlighting the individual styles of the music so perfectly! (Plus it was so entertaining!!!)."

TCTE's Ukraine National Anthem Goes Global
The Twin Cities Trumpet Ensemble's (TCTE) version of the National Anthem of Ukraine (by Mykhailo Mykhailovych Verbytsky, arranged by TCTE director James Olcott) is being offered on the internet as a free download by Triplo Press. To date the video has been viewed over 12,140 times and downloaded over 450 times worldwide. Triplo Press is one of TCTE’s corporate sponsors.
Olcott writes, "Play it on any occasion where you wish to show compassion, support, and solidarity for the country of Ukraine." The instrumentation includes eight trumpets in B-flat with four flugelhorns and percussion (snare drum, cymbals and bass drum). The work can be played with one, two, three, up to eight trumpet parts, all combinations working well. Percussion is optional.
Permission is granted to download the recording from the Triplo site for use on social media with appropriate credit given to Triplo Press and James Olcott. Permission is given to copy and distribute the printed music of this arrangement worldwide, again with acknowledged credit. Recording or distribution of this arrangement by any means for profit is strictly prohibited."
This version of the National Anthem of Ukraine was selected to open the 2022 international conference of the International Trumpet Guild in San Antonio, Texas. It was performed in the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Riverwalk by "the world's largest trumpet ensemble" (between 150-200 players) and conducted by Marie Speziale. The anthem preceded the traditional opening trumpet ensemble fanfare signaling the start of the conference.
