Rain Dampens the Printed Music but not the Spirit
On-and-off dribbles and one legitimate drench met the TCTE at Woodbury's outdoor Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 27, 2024. Luckily, the drench occurred at a time in the service that did not include the TCTE. But the 30-minute prelude and the in-service and post-service performances were played during dribbles, which, of course, watered the printed music on the stands.
But that didn't stop the TCTE, which played excellently through the entire event, including a beautiful version of Echo Taps, performed by Gene Poole and Chris Tank.
After the prelude of patriotic music, within the service the ensemble played a medley of armed forces anthems and closed the event with God Bless America. The hour-long ceremony was attended by an estimated 200 people who witnessed speeches and military remembrance traditions, all carried off with impressive professionalism -- as was the work done by the Twin Cities Trumpet Ensemble. Even in the rain.

December 21, 2023 - Phipps Auditorium, Hudson WI
The Phipps concert played to a full house and was artfully narrated by radio personality Michael Barone. Bill Chouinard displayed his usual art the Phipp's theater organ, joining in with the TCTE on several numbers, including a very impressive arrangement of Handel's Hallelujah Chorus from The Messiah.

TCTE's Ukraine National Anthem Goes Global
The Twin Cities Trumpet Ensemble's (TCTE) version of the National Anthem of Ukraine (by Mykhailo Mykhailovych Verbytsky, arranged by TCTE director James Olcott) is being offered on the internet as a free download by Triplo Press. To date the video has been viewed over 12,140 times and downloaded over 450 times worldwide. Triplo Press is one of TCTE’s corporate sponsors.
Olcott writes, "Play it on any occasion where you wish to show compassion, support, and solidarity for the country of Ukraine." The instrumentation includes eight trumpets in B-flat with four flugelhorns and percussion (snare drum, cymbals and bass drum). The work can be played with one, two, three, up to eight trumpet parts, all combinations working well. Percussion is optional.
Permission is granted to download the recording from the Triplo site for use on social media with appropriate credit given to Triplo Press and James Olcott. Permission is given to copy and distribute the printed music of this arrangement worldwide, again with acknowledged credit. Recording or distribution of this arrangement by any means for profit is strictly prohibited."
This version of the National Anthem of Ukraine was selected to open the 2022 international conference of the International Trumpet Guild in San Antonio, Texas. It was performed in the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Riverwalk by "the world's largest trumpet ensemble" (between 150-200 players) and conducted by Marie Speziale. The anthem preceded the traditional opening trumpet ensemble fanfare signaling the start of the conference.
